If this journal happens to friend you, that in no way carries an expectation to friend me back or read my Sims stuff or anything like that. I friend people whose legacies/stories I enjoy because I'm terrible at remembering all the ones I'm following. It's just easier to keep track of them if I actually add the people doing them. I try to only add people who seem to have an open friending policy, but if I have added you and you don't want me there, just let me know and I'll remove you.
